Starbucks Gift Card Scam

The latest Facebook scam -and there are enough to write a book about- targets fans of Starbucks. The bogus ad promises Facebook users a free $50 dollar gift card if they "share" the ad with their friends. But those who reposted the ad to their stauts updates were instead re-directed to shysty survey sites. Sorry, no Starbucks gift card.

Yep, better start scanning for viruses and malware. And it may not be a bad idea to change your Facebook password, too.

According to reports, thousands of Facebookers have fallen victim as users inadvertently spread the ad virally. Hard to imagine so many people could believe Starbucks, or any company, would simply give away $50 dollar gift cards just for reposting an ad, but I guess the hope of getting something for nothing overwhelms common sense. Instead of getting a free gift card, they've likely gotten some free adware.

In response, Starbucks issued a tweet warning users about the scam.
